Lighthouse Tours
We feature 2 separate Lighthouse Cruises. One tour around Campobello Island. Features West Quoddy, East Quoddy, and Mulholland Lighthouses. The other tour around Deer Island features the 5 smaller lighthouses.
Puffin Tours
Puffins had nested along the Maine coast on at least 6 islands: Eastern Egg Rock, Western Egg Rock, Large Green Island, Matinicus Rock, Seal Island and Machias Seal Island. By the early 1900's, there was only one pair of puffins left south of the Canadian border. That pair lived on Matinicus Rock, a lonely pile of rocks 22 miles off the coast in Penobscot Bay. After Matinicus Rock's lighthouse keepers began protecting the puffins from hunters, the puffins began to come back and there are now about 150 pairs that nest there. Puffins had always remained on Machias Seal Island on the Canadian border which today supports a breeding colony of about 3,000 pairs of puffins. Our tour will take you to Machias Seal Island.
Whale Watching
The world’s largest living creatures can be found feeding and frolicking just 20 miles off the Maine coast. Beginning in mid-April, hungry whales arrive to feast in local waters rich in sand eels, copepods, plankton, and fish. In October, they’ll head south toward warmer seas.
Until then, thousands of visitors will have the chance to spot the plentiful species of whales found in Maine’s ocean waters as they breach the surface, spout water, and nurse their young. Familiar sights include humpback whales, pilot whales, minke whales, and the massive finback whale, which can grow up to 80 feet in length. Sperm whales, orcas and right whales are a few of the state’s occasional visitors.
Whale watching cruises will put you right where the action is. There’s also a chance of seeing seals, porpoise, and other marine life along the way. We offer two separate Whale Watching Adventures. The tour inside Grand Manan will enable you to view the Minke Whale, the Finback, and occassionally the Humpback and Rightwhales. The tour outside Grand Manan will most often see all species which includes Finback, Humpback, Minke, Right Whales, and the occasional Orca. This tour takes you to the area where the New England Whale Research Vessels spend the summer tracking whales.
